The Privilege of Serving All Patients and Families is Important During Black History Month
During Black History Month, Ohio’s Hospice recognizes the challenges and barriers faced by Black families and other families of color to receive quality end-of-life care.
Through our commitment to Celebrating Life’s Stories®, embracing diversity, and creating welcoming communities, we aim to ensure that everyone receives the superior care and services they deserve.

Ohio’s Hospice recognizes that more work needs to be done in healthcare and other areas to promote access, equity, diversity, and inclusion for the Black community.
Historical factors, disparities in access to healthcare, and culture oftentimes impact end-of-life care decisions.
A recent study by researchers at Johns Hopkins uncovered a big difference in hospice utilization by Black Americans. The study found that 34.9 percent of Black study participants who died used hospice services, compared to 46.2 percent for white participants.
These and other findings highlight the challenges and disparities of Black Americans when faced with end-of-life care decisions.
We actively work towards ensuring that our services are accessible, culturally appropriate, and respectful of individual beliefs and values.
The team at Ohio’s Hospice understands that by engaging in the pursuit of a more inclusive and equitable society, we can contribute to the healing and well-being of the communities we serve.
We also embrace diversity in our workplace. We are committed to creating a culture in which all our staff members are appreciated and respected.
