We’re Committed to Serving the LGBTQ+ Community

Ohio’s Hospice is committed to providing inclusive hospice and palliative care to the LGBTQ+ community. Everyone in our community should feel welcome, heard and supported, whether you are a patient, family member or staff member.

We are proud to be a community-based organization. For us, community-based is more than a compound adjective. Our staff live and work in the communities we serve. The patients and families we serve are our friends, neighbors and teammates. We each come from different backgrounds, cultures and beliefs, making up a diverse group of people who represent our communities.

Learn more about how we’re creating a supportive environment through SAGECare.

SAGECare – Serving LGBTQ+ Older Adults

SAGECare provides training and consulting on LGBTQ+ aging issues. As a division of SAGE (Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders), SAGECare is part of the country’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender older adults.

Staff Training

Each staff member completes annual training SAGECare LGBTQ+ training, which covers the basics of what LGBTQ+ means, includes stories of actual LGBTQ+ older adults and how their lives have intersected with changes in how society thinks about and treats the LGBTQ+ community, and educates our staff on the nuances of care for the LGBTQ+ community. This training helps our staff understand those differences and communicate carefully with respect to each patient’s situation.

In addition, our Leadership team has completed four-hour in-person training, which is designed to help leaders create communities that are genuinely inclusive and build on the diversity and strength of both the staff and the care recipients. We are proud to offer these learning opportunities to our staff to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.

Going Above and Beyond With Platinum SAGECare Certification

Because of the training and its commitment to creating a more welcoming community to LGBTQ+ adults, Ohio’s Hospice is now credentialed with Platinum SAGECare certification. To earn this certification 80% of staff and leadership must completed a specific training process. At Ohio’s Hospice, 100% of staff complete this training.
