New Beds a ‘Smart’ Addition in Dayton, Troy
Patients at Ohio’s Hospice inpatient care centers in Dayton and Troy are receiving their compassionate care on new, state-of-the-art smart beds designed to provide enhanced safety, comfort, and dignity.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Ohio’s Hospice Foundation was able to fund the beds, which feature advanced technology, to better serve patients and families during their time with us. The beds play a meaningful role in keeping our patients safe by helping to reduce the risk of falls, pressure injuries, and discomfort.
The beds provide continuous monitoring of heart rate, respiratory rate, and weight monitoring, and feature bed exit alarms and fall prevention programs along with advanced microclimate technology to reduce heat and moisture. They also customize pressure relief and enhance overall comfort. For our caregivers, they improve communication and are easier to maneuver, allowing staff to focus more time and attention on what matters most – being present with patients and families during their hospice journey.
“Having state-of-the-art medical equipment, such as these smart beds, allows us to provide our patients with dignity, comfort, and the highest quality of care,” said Lori Igel, president of Ohio’s Hospice Foundation. “Our goal is to do everything in our power to make patients as comfortable as possible, and these smart beds are helping us achieve that. They also reduce the risk of injury for our caregivers, ensuring our staff can work safely while continuing to provide compassionate, attentive care.”
This investment reflects Ohio’s Hospice’s commitment to providing superior care and superior services to each patient and family we are honored and privileged to serve. The smart beds support both the patients in our care and the dedicated team members who serve them.
They give our organization peace of mind that our patients and families are receiving the best care by using equipment that is safe and comfortable as they are Celebrating Life’s Stories®.
