Ohio’s Hospice Honors Hispanic Heritage

As we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month through Oct. 15, we take some time to honor the history, culture and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.

Hispanic Heritage Month

As part of our mission, we celebrate the lives of those we have the privilege of serving by providing superior care and superior services to each patient and family. We’re honored and privileged to serve the Hispanic and Latino communities, respecting their unique cultural traditions and values during life’s most important moments.

The celebration begins Sept. 15 as that day marks the independence day for several Latin American countries including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Chile.

There are many ways you can celebrate and honor Hispanic Heritage Month. We encourage everyone to explore and appreciate the rich diversity of Hispanic and Latino cultures.

1. Embrace the Flavors: A Culinary Journey

Try diverse culinary traditions from various Latin American countries, each featuring their own unique flavors.

2. Tune In: Music and Dance That Move Your Soul

Listen to traditional Hispanic music, such as salsa, merengue and bachata, and watch traditional dances, such as the salsa and the rumba.

3. Dive into Literature: Stories That Resonate

Read books by Hispanic authors, such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Isabel Allende.

4. Support Hispanic/Latino Businesses: Shop with Purpose

Shop at and learn more about Hispanic-owned businesses in your community.

5. Check out Local Events: Join the Celebration!

Attend local events, such as festivals, parades and concerts that applaud Hispanic Heritage Month.

6. Educate Yourself and Others: Knowledge is Power

Learn about the histories and cultures of Hispanic and Latino individuals and share your knowledge with others.

7. Share Your Story: Personal Narratives Matter

Share your own story and experiences as a Hispanic or Latino individual. At Ohio’s Hospice we are privileged to hear the family histories and traditions of Hispanic and Latino patients and families.

8. Reflect and Appreciate: The Heart of the Celebration

Take time to reflect on the significance of Hispanic Heritage Month and appreciate the diversity of Hispanic and Latino cultures.

Culturally Responsive Care

At Ohio’s Hospice, we understand that cultural background shapes how individuals and families approach end-of-life care. Our teams are committed to:

  • Respecting cultural and spiritual traditions.
  • Providing language support when needed.
  • Honoring family involvement in care decisions.
  • Celebrating each person’s unique life story.

If you or someone you know needs compassionate end-of-life care that honors cultural values and traditions, we’re here to help. Call us at 888.449.4121 to learn more about our services.
