Ohio’s Hospice Recognizes Certified Nurses Day
On March 19, we join healthcare organizations nationwide celebrating Certified Nurses Day, honoring the dedication and expertise of nurses who’ve pursued advanced certification in their specialties.

At Ohio’s Hospice, certification reflects our commitment to honor and recognize the expertise and specialized knowledge that elevates the care we provide when it’s needed.
According to the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center, becoming certified involves a process that validates and evaluates one’s expertise in a specialty area. While licensure assures minimal competency to practice in a field, certification indicates mastery of a defined body of knowledge.
“Teammates who are working towards or working to maintain their hospice and palliative certification demonstrate a strong sense of professional identity, a commitment to their continued professional development, and a desire to deliver expert, compassionate, end-of-life care,” said Julie Wickline, senior director of education and staff development.
Based on a review of the 2025 data from the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA), Ohio’s Hospice employs:
- 48% of Ohio’s certified Hospice and Palliative Licensed Nurses (CHPLN).
- 43% of Ohio’s certified Hospice and Palliative Nursing Assistants (CHPNA).
- 32% of Ohio’s certified Hospice and Palliative Nurses (CHPN).
Ohio’s Hospice certification numbers reflect our ongoing commitment to excellence and superior care. We’re honored that so many certified hospice and palliative care professionals choose to join our mission of Celebrating Life’s Stories®.
These impressive certification numbers translate to real benefits for the patients and families we have the privilege of serving every day. Certification requires extensive knowledge in many areas including pain and symptom management, emotional and spiritual support, and end-of-life care.
As we celebrate Certified Nurses Day, we’re grateful to our certified nurses and care professionals across all our affiliates. Their pursuit of excellence through certification ensures that every patient in our care receives the highest quality end-of-life support, provided with expertise, compassion, and dignity — precisely when expertise matters most.
