Darlene Prenger Celebrates 20 years of Service with Ohio’s Hospice

20 Years

Darlene Prenger got her start with Ohio’s Hospice in March of 2004. She had a feeling that she would enjoy being on the team that provides superior care and superior services to patients and their families.

“I knew that I wanted to work at Ohio’s Hospice someday because being a Hospice Nurse was where I felt called,” Prenger said.

Prenger worked on the inpatient unit at St. Elizabeth Medical Center from 1985 to 1988, when Ohio’s Hospice was first getting started in Dayton.

Darlene Prenger

“I was a new nurse and employed by St. Elizabeth’s,” she said, recounting that early period in her career.

Ohio’s Hospice has grown into a statewide alliance of not-for-profit providers established in 2013 who now serve more than 60 counties statewide. Prenger says she has enjoyed being a part of the growth.

“Seeing the growth of the Vision and Mission of Ohio’s Hospice from the early days until now, has been amazing,” she said.

Prenger has enjoyed working with teammates that have shared her love of the Ohio’s Hospice mission.

“I have had the privilege of working in many areas as a RN at the Dayton campus over the last 20 years,” she said. “It is the only job I have had where the staff is mission-minded and has genuine caring hearts. It has been more than just a job.”

Prenger has worked as a Care Team Coordinator since 2020 and has enjoyed wearing many hats during her tenure.

“My time before that was with Care Partners – RN Care Manager. I also worked PRN in Triage, Admissions and Float Team,” Prenger said.

The caring atmosphere at Ohio’s Hospice has made a difference in Darlene’s life and she is grateful to salute those who work at the organization.

“Working side by side like-minded, and a compassionate, caring staff is wonderful,” she said.

She added, “I am thankful for my Team Leader Jackie Porter’s leadership. I am also thankful for the flexibility of being able to work part-time, which allows me to have time with my family, especially my grandchildren.”

Prenger’s 20-year commitment to Celebrating Life’s Stories® exemplifies the dedication of Ohio’s Hospice staff to providing superior care and superior services to each patient and family we have the privilege of serving.
