Five Stars for Superior Care: Ohio’s Hospice Celebrates Excellence in Northeast Ohio
Ohio’s Hospice is honored to announce that its Wooster-based care team has received a Five-Star Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) – the highest possible rating. This recognition celebrates the legacy of superior care and superior services established by Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare in Wooster and Community Hospice in New Philadelphia – a commitment to Celebrating Life’s Stories® that continues today as Ohio’s Hospice serves northeastern Ohio.

The Five-Star Rating, determined by CMS, is based on family caregiver surveys and quality measures that assess various aspects of hospice care. Only 10% of hospices nationwide achieve this five-star rating, reflecting the dedication to superior care and superior services that continues as Ohio’s Hospice serves more communities.
“This five-star rating reflects how our care teams honor each patient’s unique story through kindness and compassionate care,” said Kent Anderson, CEO of Ohio’s Hospice. “This standard of excellence continues as we serve more Ohioans.”
The rating is especially meaningful as Ohio’s Hospice now provides comprehensive supportive and hospice care across Ohio, with local offices in:
- Wooster
- New Philadelphia
- Millersburg
- Ashland
- Coshocton
- Salem
- Carrollton
- Middleburg Heights (serving greater Cleveland and Cuyahoga County)
The organization maintains two 12-bed hospice care centers: the Stanley C. and Flo K. Gault Inpatient Pavilion in Wooster and the Truman House in New Philadelphia. Both facilities provide short-term symptom management and around-the-clock medical support in comfortable, home-like settings where every patient’s story continues to be celebrated.
Key highlights from the CMS quality measures include:
- 94% of families reported that patients were always treated with respect
- 93% of families received the right amount of emotional and spiritual support
- 94% would definitely recommend our care to others
- 88% gave the hospice a top rating of 9 or 10 out of 10
“As a mission-driven, not-for-profit, community-based organization, we focus on providing superior care to everyone we serve,” said Renee Sparks, Senior Vice President of Ohio’s Hospice. “The legacy of exceptional care demonstrated by this Five-Star Rating continues as we serve more Ohioans throughout Ohio.”
Beyond patient care, Ohio’s Hospice provides grief support services, community education and resources to anyone in the community who needs support, regardless of ability to pay. These services, supported by dedicated staff and volunteers from the communities we serve, are part of our commitment to being a trusted community partner.
