Solar Eclipse 2024

Things to Know!

A total solar eclipse happens when the moon completely blocks the sun’s bright face, known as totality, briefly turning day into night.

It’s essential to view the eclipse safely: the only safe way to look directly at the sun during an eclipse is through special-purpose solar filters, such as eclipse glasses or handheld solar viewers.

A substantial part of Ohio will be in the path of totality for the upcoming solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024.

This means many areas throughout Ohio could see a notable rise in visitors, which might bring about specific challenges. These challenges could include heavy traffic, overloaded cell phone towers resulting in limited service, and possible shortages of supplies such as gasoline. To avoid any issues during the solar eclipse, we invite you or your loved ones to review and consider the following information to ensure your safety and comfort during this once-in-a-lifetime event.

We suggest you plan for the solar eclipse as you might for a significant winter storm.

  • Your care team will prepare for any anticipated needs and help you develop a plan for the day of the eclipse on Monday, April 8.
  • If you have any supplies, medication, or other needs, please contact your care team before April 5 so that you have enough of any needed items to last through Wednesday, April 10.
  • Fill up your gas tank in your car.
  • Have cash on hand if credit/debit cards do not work or ATMs are offline.
  • Ohio Emergency Management Agency (EMA) encourages all travelers to prioritize safety by preparing a vehicle kit. This kit should include essential items such as snacks, drinks, cash, cell phone chargers and blankets.

Cell phone service may be limited. If you cannot reach Ohio’s Hospice and there is an emergency, please call 911.

Be aware that our visit response times could be delayed due to traffic congestion in some areas.

Deliveries from Enclara Pharmacy or for medical supplies may be delayed until Wednesday, April 10.
