Community Honors Loved Ones at Ohio’s Hospice Celebrating Life’s Stories® Butterfly Release in Heath

Heath event raises $19,000 while releasing 300 butterflies in remembrance

More than 150 community members gathered at Davis Shai House in Heath on July 12, 2025, for the Ohio’s Hospice Celebrating Life’s Stories® Butterfly Release, a moving tribute that honored loved ones while raising $19,000 to support patient care and bereavement services.

The event featured the release of more than 300 butterflies, each representing a cherished memory and celebrating a life that touched others. Attendees found comfort and connection in the shared experience of remembrance, accompanied by the soothing sounds of harpist Olivia Claggett.

“This annual butterfly release provides our community with a beautiful way to honor and remember loved ones while supporting the mission of Ohio’s Hospice,” said a spokesperson for Ohio’s Hospice. “The overwhelming response – with more than 300 butterflies purchased – demonstrates the deep need for meaningful remembrance opportunities in our community.”

Proceeds from the event support the quality-of-life needs of patients and provide important bereavement support to families. The funds raised help ensure that Ohio’s Hospice can continue providing care to any eligible patient, regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay.

The event was made possible through the dedication of committee members Adrianne Veatch and Stacy Geller, along with volunteers including Judy and Jim Wagner, Mike Havens, Peggy Streby, Jo Streby, Karen Riley, Doug Gill, Marsha Hall, Sheri Weiner and Maria Johnson.

Community sponsors demonstrated their commitment to supporting end-of-life care through their generous contributions:

  • Loyal Order of the Moose #499
  • Licking Memorial Health Systems
  • Beverly Mellars Craney
  • Buckeye Lake Eagles 2801 Aux.
  • Licking County Aging Partners
  • The Matesich Family
  • Valhalla Farms

Ohio’s Hospice plans to continue this meaningful tradition with the next Celebrating Life’s Stories® Butterfly Release scheduled for July 2026.
