Serving With Heart: Comforting Patients and Families in the Dayton Region

John Habel’s commitment to service spans decades, making a lasting impact on those he encounters. His dedication to our country began in 1957 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving until 1961.
Today, John continues to serve through his volunteer work with the American Pride® Veteran Care by Ohio’s Hospice program. He conducts veteran recognition ceremonies, honoring patients who have served in the military, and assists in training new American Pride volunteers.

John says, “It’s a cause near and dear to my heart – bringing dignity and respect to the patients.”
In addition to his work with American Pride, John volunteers in the animal-assisted pet therapy program, where he and his loyal companion, Megan, provide comfort and joy to patients and their families. Together, they share meaningful moments, brightening the day of everyone they meet.
