Community Remembers Loved Ones During New Philadelphia Butterfly Event
108 community members came together in New Philadelphia on July 30, 2026, to participate in the annual Celebrating Life’s Stories® Butterfly Release, raising nearly $3k to support patient care services.

Held at Ohio’s Hospice Truman House, participants set free butterflies as a way to remember the loss of a loved one.
“The event is a way for people experiencing loss to share memories and find comfort in knowing they’re not alone in their grief,” an Ohio’s Hospice spokesperson said. “Participants dedicate butterflies to those who have had a meaningful impact on their lives. Then, they release the butterflies which symbolizes love, remembrance, transformation, and hope. It provides families a peaceful opportunity to come together.”
A total of $2,741 was raised, and all proceeds support patient care and bereavement services, including helping Ohio’s Hospice provide care to eligible patients.
Josie McCutheon provided meaningful music during the event.
The event was organized by committee members Kelsie Gunnoe, Mona Sayre, Marissa Bryan and Anna Speelman.
Local sponsors demonstrated their commitment to supporting end-of-life care in the community: Huntington Bank, Dr. Lindsey Clark – In Honor of Paul Mills, Lightning Signs and Decals, Dennis Grech
A special thanks to our event volunteers Jill Aul, Sherry Debevec, Lana Jerles, Bev Johnson, Gayle Mack, Diane Cleveland, Rita West and Holli Immel-Keener, whose dedication helped create a meaningful experience for all who attended.
The butterfly release will be held again next year, but no date has been set.
