Dedication Ceremony Celebrates Shared Commitment to Preserving and Advancing Hospice Care
A new chapter in hospice care in central Ohio officially began June 12 as Ohio’s Hospice, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and the Kobacker family unveiled a new identity and rededicated the hospice at the university’s main hospital. The facility will now be known as Ohio’s Hospice at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center – A Kobacker House.
The dedication ceremony celebrated a shared commitment to preserving and advancing nonprofit, mission-driven hospice care while honoring the values that have guided the Kobacker family’s hospice legacy for more than three decades.
Alfred Kobacker addresses guests, reflecting on his family’s longstanding commitment to hospice care and the next chapter of the Kobacker legacy.
The partnership brings together Ohio’s largest not-for-profit hospice organization and one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers. Leaders said the collaboration will strengthen patient care while expanding opportunities for education and research in hospice and palliative medicine.

At the center of the partnership is the Kobacker Way, a framework built around dignity, compassion, family-centered care, nonprofit stewardship, and community service. The newly unveiled logo serves as the first visual expression of those principles and the organizations’ shared vision for the future.
The ceremony marked the beginning of what partners hope will become a national model for nonprofit, academic hospice care and a lasting tribute to the Kobacker family’s commitment to end-of-life care in central Ohio.
