Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare Celebrates Volunteers at Annual Recognition Dinner

As part of National Volunteer Month, Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare celebrated its volunteers at its annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner on April 27. More than 150 volunteers were recognized for their service. In addition, Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare commissioned a class of new volunteers.

“We’re so grateful for the depth of commitment and excellence of performance demonstrated over and over by our volunteer staff,” said Elisa Stoyle, manager of Volunteer Services at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare. “We thank our volunteers for their commitment to our mission. They are an integral part of our care team, enhancing the quality of life for our patients.”

Thanking our volunteers for their support of our mission! Ohio's Hospice LifeCare

Volunteers provide a variety of services to the patients and families of Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare. They are involved in every aspect of Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare’s mission, from direct patient care to buildings and grounds, from respite care in private homes to providing a supportive presence at the bedside of a patient in a long-term care facility, and from bereavement support to computer data entry. In addition, Veteran volunteers provide Vet-to-Vet companionship and perform Veteran Recognition ceremonies through American Pride® Veteran Care by Ohio’s Hospice.

Kearney Award

Each year, Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare honors one of its volunteers with its Volunteer of the Year Award — the Kearney Award. It is given to the volunteer who has contributed the greatest number of hours of direct care service. The award is named after Dr. Walter H. Kearney, one of Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare’s founding physicians, former medical director and former board president. Dr. Kearney presented the award to Mark Gustafson who contributed more than 400 hours of his time to support patients and their families.
