Nearly $7,000 was raised for hospice care during the Celebrating Life’s Stories^® Butterfly Release July 26 held at Ohio’s Hospice in Wooster. 110 community members participated in the annual event during which butterflies were set free as a way to remember the loss of a loved one. 

“The event is a way for people experiencing loss to share memories and find comfort in knowing they’re not alone in their grief,” an Ohio’s Hospice spokesperson said. “Participants dedicate butterflies to those who have had a meaningful impact on their lives. Then, they release the butterflies which symbolize love, remembrance, transformation, and hope. It provides families a peaceful opportunity to come together.” 

In addition to providing a meaningful experience for attendees, all proceeds support Ohio’s Hospice in providing superior care and superior services to anyone in the community facing end of life, ensuring that no one is turned away due to inability to pay. 

Josie McCutheon provided meaningful music during the event. 

The event was organized by committee members Kelsie Gunnoe, Mona Sayre, Marissa Bryan and Anna Speelman with support from sponsors Wooster Color Point and Fredericksburg Greenhouse & Nursery.

Ohio’s Hospice plans to continue this cherished community tradition with another Butterfly Release in 2027, with the date to be announced.
