Ohio’s Hospice Celebrates Fourth Quarter of 2024 Bouquet of Recognition Honorees
Outstanding members of Ohio’s Hospice staff are recognized each quarter with the Bouquet of Recognition Awards for Excellence. Honorees personify the qualities found in the mission and values of Ohio’s Hospice and are the foundation upon which remarkable patient experiences are built.
These honorees consistently demonstrate excellence through their expertise and extraordinary care of patients and families. They are recognized as outstanding role models in the Ohio’s Hospice community. These are the recipients for the fourth quarter of 2024.

Kenny Coyan, culinary specialist at Ohio’s Hospice Troy campus, was recently honored with a Bouquet of Recognition Carnation Award. His daily efforts are a shining example of the servant leadership and compassionate care that we provide.
Mary Smith nominated Coyan for the recognition. Smith was very moved by Coyan’s attention to the end-of-life care he provided for her husband, Mark, and noted how pleased she was with his attention to detail.
“Throughout Mark’s time in hospice, Kenny would come in and say hello. Kenny went above and beyond to help my husband find food he would eat and enjoy. My husband was in his last days of cancer. Kenny talked to Mark and asked what he would eat then made sure that food was available. It made Mark feel valued,” Smith said.
Coyan’s loyal commitment is appreciated by his teammates and does not go unnoticed. We value Coyan’s dedication and commitment and say thank you for a job well done!

Ohio’s Hospice is proud to be a DAISY Award® partner, recognizing nurses with this special honor quarterly. At Ohio’s Hospice, DAISY Award honorees are nurses who consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care.
Misty Straney, an RN at the Hospice House/IPU, is the recipient of this award and the heartwarming nomination from a patient’s family member tells the story of how her dedication to providing superior care and superior service left a lasting impression.
A family member recalled how Misty was one of the fabulous nurses who cared for their father, Richard Anderson, when he was in hospice this past December.
“She works the night shift, and I bet a lot of nurses that work that shift don’t receive enough credit because families don’t see them as often,” they explained.
The family member added that Misty was truly an angel who cared for their dad all through the night hours.
An instance that stood out for the family was when they had hooked up a DVD player to the TV in their father’s room and were watching a birthday video that they had made all about his life. When the family arrived for the evening, they turned off the DVD player. What happened next warmed their hearts.
“I called the hospice nurse station line the next morning to get a report on how my dad’s evening had been and got to speak with Misty personally, who had cared for him,” the family member explained. “Misty happened to mention how much she loved seeing those pictures of my dad and that she was talking to him about them in the room.”
She added, “I said, ‘Oh Misty, I thought I turned that DVD player off.’ She replied, ‘I turned it back on. I wanted to see all about his life.’”
The fact that Misty would take that much interest in a person whom she would know for a short period of time was incredibly telling about the deep level of care and compassion that she has for her patients.
“I have told this story multiple times to so many people, and it never fails to impress,” the family member said. “Misty is a very special part of your team, and we’re so grateful that she was there to care for my dad.”
Misty is so deserving of the DAISY Award®!
